FLIGHT OPTIONS We will not be designating a “TEAM FLIGHT” this year. With COVID and so many unknowns, we want families to be comfortable with their choice for a flight. Many families are working together to find the best flight options for them. Talk to friends and share information with each other as you find reasonable flights. We do need a commitment that your athlete will be in Arizona on Thursday and at the hotel by 4pm. Please book your flights accordingly. Athletes will have hotel rooms paid for on Thursday and Friday night, any extended stay will need to be arranged by parents.
Coaches Flights The coaching staff will be on the following Southwest flights. This is not an official "team flight" however, if families feel more comfortable booking the same flight as the coaching staff they absolutely can!
HOTEL https://www.cambriachandler.com/ - MAPThe team will be staying here. There are currently rooms available, so we suggest booking soon. There is not a block of rooms held for parents, only athletes. There are several hotels in this area if you would like to stay somewhere else. We will be in the Chandler Fashion Center. There are many options close by for those wishing to use points or as reward members. COVID- UNKNOWNS The coaches and coordinators are doing their very best to create a fun and memorable trip for the hard-working athletes. The fact remains that there are no guarantees. There is a chance that some money may not be able to be refunded if COVID restrictions go in place and the trip is canceled. We hope that it won’t happen, but the reality is that there are chances it could. We just want families to understand this before committing to racing in AZ.
Trip Eligibility Every member of our team is eligible to attend the NXRSW trip as a part of the Vista Nation XC Club if the following requirements are met:
Consistently train everyday over the summer.
Athletes stay in town to train/race the week of fall break (Oct 16th-24th).
Athletes continue to train and attend practice each day after the League Championships (Oct 14th) until the NXRSW Regional on November 20th.
Athletes follow all team policies related to academics, sportsmanship, etc. during the season.
To be eligible for the Championship race at NXR athletes will need to commit in advance to being at all practices the week of Thanksgiving (November 22nd-28th) if we qualify for Nike Cross Nationals.
Have a discussion with Coach Dalby and Coach Selle about traveling to Arizona as part of Vista Nation XC Club before making any travel arrangements.
Athletes age/grade and best 5K XC race times are not requirements to go on the trip. We will take anyone who meets the requirements above.
Nike Cross Nationals and Thanksgiving Break A challenge again for us this year will be Thanksgiving break. Douglas County Schools is giving us the entire week off when we return from NXRSW. This is a great break from the stresses of school, and time to be able to spend with our families. This will also be the time we are hopefully finishing our final preparations to race our best at the national championship. If we are fortunate enough to make it back to Portland this fall to race at NXN we are asking all athletes that qualify be at practice each morning during the week of November 22nd-28th.
I am Interested in the trip...what next? Here are the steps that need to take place if you are interested in the trip.
Understand the expectations (see above) to be eligible for the trip.
If you can meet these expectations speak w/ Coach Dalby and Coach Selle ASAP about the trip before making any plans to travel as a part of Vista Nation XC Club.
Train hard all season and get ready to run fast in AZ!
Parent Chaperones We are once again anticipating that there will be a lot of parents with us on the NXR trip. Our biggest need from parents on the trip is help driving kids around. If you are planning on accompanying the team in AZ, and are willing to help drive during the trip in your rental car please let Jen Christians know when you contact her about your athlete coming to AZ. We always appreciate the help!
