Oct 29th-Nov 4th: Banquet and NXN Practice

10/28/2012

What a great accomplishment this weekend for our TEAM! In the 5A state championship race we were the only TEAM in the Colorado to put both the boys and the girls in the top 4. We had adversity at times, as did all teams, but we persevered and ran very well through it. The girls finished 4th and the guys brought home Vista's first boys state championship in any sport.

Thank you to everyone that came down to CO Springs for the meet. If there was any doubt who had the most fans at State just look at the picture up top. Vista Nation was in full force and there is no doubt that our fan support pulled our athletes along. We talk a lot about the 95 kids that it takes to push each other all season, but the parents and family members that support our TEAM are just as important. Thank you for everything you have done for us this year.

I want to give a big thank you to all of the coaches as well for all the time they put in this season. Coach Woolley who gives up time between work and family to be with us. Coach Cooke who has a newborn (future Vista Nation runner!) son at home, but is committed to the kids on the team as well . Coach Sprafke for all the time she dedicated this summer and to the middle school kids in the fall. And of course Coach Cox who is the anchor of our coaching staff and lets face it....puts up with the men on staff:) I want to especially thank my good friend Coach Eric Selle. After the 2008 state meet where we took 17th in the girls race, and qualified only 1 boy, I told Selle that I thought Mountain Vista could be a very special program. We just needed to be patient and in 5 years time could be in a different place. Selle always believed we could get there and on Saturday we did.  Thanks again Coaches. It's pretty cool to be able to do what you love the most with people that are your best friends.

When you prepare, great things can happen. We started preparing the first week in June with BIG goals in mind, but for many of us that preparation started 4 years ago. I am very proud of everything you accomplished this season and the direction you have taken the TEAM. Seniors, you are some of the best people we know and we are all very proud of you.  Congrats to everyone on a great state meet performance!

Banquet Information
Our banquet is Friday, November 2nd at 6:00 p.m. in the MVHS Commons.  Like last year, we will have a pot-luck style banquet.  Kimmy Romine has created a sign-up sheet on Sign-up Genius.  Please feel free to sign up for more than one slot.  We have 93 athletes, and all parents, siblings and other family members are invited - so we will need a lot of food, supplies and help. Here is the link to sign up: www.SignUpGenius.com/go/60B0C4EA4AA2CA57-banquet/6138940

Athletes, parents and family members - feel free to dress up!  Gentlemen (athletes), if you have a suit wear it and lets keep the tradition alive!(you don't have to wear a suit, we just think it's fun to class the joint up a little!) Let's party in style.

If you have questions please contact Kimmy Romine.

End of Season XC Info
Uniform Turn-in
Please turn in your uniform and warm-ups this week to avoid receiving a fine card. Uniforms should be turned in to Coach Selle's room this week, or to Coach Dalby during NXN practices. All uniforms should be returned cleaned and washed.

Pre-Season Athlete Track Meeting and Winter Conditioning
The pre-season track meeting will be on Wednesday, November 7th right after school (3:00). It will be in a room TBD at MVHS. Two things that will be different about this winter:
     1) Student-Athletes will need to pay $50 for the 3 month off season conditioning program this year.
     2) We will start official off season conditioning for track this year on December 3rd. We will also schedule some runs during winter break for the kids to be able to meet and have people to run with. Seniors will be asked to lead some of the practices during finals week and during winter break.

Mileage Club T-Shirts for Winter Conditioning
We will do mileage clubs (just like we did during the summer) again this winter. T-Shirts will be awarded to anyone who runs the following miles between the dates of December 3rd to March 3rd :
     200 miles
     300 miles
     400 miles
     500 miles
     600 miles
I will hand workout logs out to people before this time starts. Anyone that wants to earn a mileage club shirt will need to log their miles during the winter. I am looking into online options to do this instead of pencil and paper.

Time off after XC
Everyone on the team regardless of running varsity, open, or JV should take 2 weeks off from running before returning to consistent training again. If you are ready to start running again before December 3rd go out and do 20 to 40 minutes (depending on how you feel) 6 to 7 days a week. You are welcome to join us at the NXN practices if you would like so that you have a TEAM to run with.

Individual Goal Setting Meetings
Anyone wishing to sit down with me to plan out goals for the upcoming track season is encouraged to do so. I will be happy to sit down and talk with anyone on the team about track goals you may have. All you need to do is email me or talk to me at practice to set up a time. [email protected]

Vista Nation XC Christmas Party
I need 3 or 4 of the athletes who want to take over this years Christmas run/party to contact me. This was a lot of fun last year so lets make it a tradition! I'm looking at Friday  December 21st or Saturday December 22nd as the date for the run/party for those that are in town.

Congratulations to the TEAM for placing 2nd and 1st at the 5A Regional 5 meet this past Thursday. Thank you to everyone that drove the 100 miles to Fountain to cheer on the team. Having fans and teammates makes a huge difference at meets, and there was a very noticeable amount of Vista Nation green out on the course yelling for our athletes at Regionals!

The girls fought a hard battle against Pine Creek to bring home the runner-up trophy. The boys won the meet by placing 9 runners in the top 23 with a 1 to 9 gap of 41 seconds. Here are the results from Regionals:

Congratulations to everyone on an outstanding League performance! The goal was to win all 6 races at Leagues and that goal was accomplished Thursday night. When looking from the outside it was probably very surprising to see so much green up front in each race. For the coaches, we knew we had a great chance to accomplish the goal. Not because we are exceptionally blessed with more talent or skill than anyone else. It was because after the goal was set for Leagues back in June the process to achieve it was nearly perfect. It's easy to set a goal and then not work towards it just kind of hopping it will be accomplished. It's a completely different thing to set a goal and then work towards it with all of your teammates every single day until that goal becomes a reality.

I'm very proud of the time, commitment, work, and sacrifice that was put in by our athletes over the summer and during the season. Although not everyone gets the opportunity to run at the Regional and State meets in the next 2 weeks, everyone on the team did play a part in pushing these athletes along the way. There is still one more goal to try and accomplish in the next 2 weeks.  I hope to see a lot of Vista Nation athletes and parents out cheering for our kids that are still competing and trying to accomplish those goals for the state meet.

October 8th-14th: League Championship Week

37......That's the number of people that ran personal record times yesterday at the Doherty Invitational in CO Springs. The temp was around 40 degrees and it was cold. The altitude was also at 6,100 ft which should have made for slower times, but in our case it didn't. Everyone stepped up nicely in adverse conditions and ran very well. Just as encouraging was the number of people that came out to South Platte Res this morning to get in their run in the rain and below 40 degree temps.  The TEAM is ready for the post-season, and we have a great opportunity to achieve our goals for the League Meet on Thursday.
Here are the results form the meet:

Continental League XC Championships
League Line-ups, Schedule, and Info (click)

19 weeks ago the TEAM sat down together and set some very ambitious goals for this season. One of those goals was to go into the Continental League Championships and try to win the open, JV, and varsity races for both boys and girls.  The TEAM has prepared very well over the past 4 months and is ready to achieve this goal. It's taken a lot of early mornings during the summer, giving up time on Saturday's and holidays  to be with your teammates, running an enormous amount of miles, and staying consistent with the training plan. You are as prepared as any XC TEAM we have put on the line at Vista and are ready to try and achieve our TEAM goal for the League Championships. Let's go out on Thursday and achieve something special!

Fall Break and Regional Meet Info
Here is the logistical info for the 5A Region 5 Meet the week of Fall Break:
Regional Meet and State Qualifying Info (click)

When/Where: Thursday, October 18th @ Fountain Ft-Carson HS

Athletes Participating
: We are allowed to run 9 boys and 9 girls at Regionals. Line-ups will be determined after the League Meet.

Fall Break Practices: Athletes that go on to run at the Regional Championship, and alternates, are expected to be at all Fall Break practices, including Saturday practices, in-order to be eligible to participate in the Regional Championship Meet. Fall break practices will be at 8:00 a.m. at MVHS and other locations around Highlands Ranch.

Alternates: Anyone running in the varsity or JV meet at Leagues is being considered as either a possible competitor, or alternate, for the Regional championship. Several Open race runners are also being considered for these spots and I will communicate with you by Monday.

If you are running in the JV race at Leagues and will not be in-town during Fall Break, or do not plan on participating after Leagues,  please communicate with me ASAP.

Time Off  After XC
Any athlete on the team wishing to continue to train with the team through the state meet and NXN is welcome to do so, even if your racing season is over.
After your last race of the season, every member of the team should take off  2 full weeks from running before getting ready for the upcoming track season. Information about winter track conditioning will be out soon, and I will post more info on next weeks blog. The feedback from many of you is that this year you would like to meet before (and possibly during) winter break. We will coordinate a way to do this.

Uniform Turn-In
Uniforms will be turned in the week after fall break unless racing at the State Championships. I will post more info on next weeks blog about uniform turn-in.
